Statistical tools and techniques for pilot workload assessment
Research studies are carried out on human factor issues in an aircraft program such as pilot’s mental workload assessment and pilot Vehicle interface. Several tools and techniques are applied to the piloted simulation data to analyze the variations in the pilot’s performance and in turn his workload.
Specifications: NASA TLX questionnaire for subjective workload measurement; pilot inceptor workload metric; tracking accuracy metrics such as root mean square error, time to deviate and number of deviations; analysis of Variance (ANOVA); frequency domain measures such as power spectral density and autocorrelation &power frequency metric.
Facilities where this technique is used: Reconfigurable design flight simulator
Major mile stones / results of this technique: Papers are published in peer-reviewed journals discussing the different promising methods.
