Dr. Sai Pramod’s expertise is in nano-multi-layer and nanocomposite hard nitride coatings deposited by Cathodic Arc Physical Vapour Deposition and their characterization by electron microscopy (Focused Ion Beam & Scanning Electron Microscopy) and nano-mechanical testing. He has also worked on industrial applications of tetrahedral amorphous Carbon (t-aC) and nitride coatings such as in cutting and forming. These coatings lead to significant improvement in productivity via increased cutting speeds and longer tool life; t-aC coatings resulted in substantial life increase and friction reduction in the machining of non-ferrous metals like Aluminium and Copper and their alloys while nitride coatings enhanced the life of the tools used in machining of ferrous metals and alloys. 

He is currently working on deposition of nitride coatings by magnetron sputtering and their applications in wear reduction.
