SURESH R
PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST

Shri. Suresh R is a Senior Scientist in the Centre for Civil Aircraft Design and Development Division at CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL), Bangalore. He joined CAD/CAM Group of C-CADD at CSIR-NAL as Scientist-Fellow from May, 2011 after having worked as Engineer at Aircraft Design Engineers Services Pvt. Ltd (ADES) from July, 2008 to May, 2011 during which period he was deputed to work at C-CADD, NAL for the Saras aircraft project in the CAD/CAM Group.

He has extensively worked in the area of development of three and five axes CNC programming for complex aircraft components pertaining to SARAS, C-NM5, LCA, Jaguar and Mirage aircraft projects, Wind Tunnel Modes viz., ReLaunch Vehicle, Next Generation Anti Radiation Missiles, Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet Booster, NIRBHAY Submerged Air Intake, Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile, etc., apart from carrying out validation of programs and generating manufacturing data. He is well versed with various Design, Manufacturing, Kinematics, DMU and Assembly modules CATIA V5 software, PowerMill Software, VERICUT simulation software and ICAM post processing software. He has carried out reverse engineering of various critical aircraft components and has manufactured and delivered them in a project mode and has gained good expertise in this field.

He has acquired special knowledge in the niche and critical area of development of customized postprocessors for various Multi-axes CNC machining centers and Controller combination. He has co-authored and presented two research papers in this area which were accepted at International Conferences. He has also co-authored and presented two papers at the Vericut User Exchanges held annually in Bangalore.

In addition to the above activities, he has also taken responsibilities in the Sheet metal component manufacturing. He has the requisite manufacturing knowledge in the area of Loft, Flat Pattern development and NMG drawings generation for Sheet metal components forming and Chemical Milling activities. He also coordinates the various manufacturing queries pertaining to Production, Inspection and Assembly.

He was given the responsibility of authoring the departmental manufacturing procedures viz., General Manufacturing Tolerances and Department Manual CAD/CAM and assisted in generation of manuals for External Sourcing and Product Quality Plan Documents which he has executed meritoriously. He has also been trained by NAL in the topics which are very crucial for any civil aircraft development programmes viz.,

1.        A Modern Introduction to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

2.        AS-9100: REV ‘C’, Familiarization Training

3.        Internal Auditors Training Programme for AS9100 Rev ‘C’.

He has also carried out auditing of CNC machining Vendors as per DGCA guidelines.

With a Masters Degree in Computer Integrated Manufacturing (2008, RVCE, Bangalore), he is organized in his work and willing to take up responsibilities. He can work independently having the aptitude to follow through so as to ensure that the given responsibility is accomplished. With his ability to work with commitment and dedication he is an asset to the laboratory.
