PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST

M Suresh Kumar,  is a Principal Scientist in the Materials Science Division at CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL). He received his B.Tech., degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the REC, Warangal, Andhra Pradesh (Presently known as NIT, Warangal) in 2002 and later earned his ME degree in Metallurgy from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Karnataka in 2004.  The same year, he joined CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore, India as a Junior scientist and was promoted to Senior Scientist in august 2013.  During his initial period of career at CSIR-NAL, he had worked in the field of fracture mode analysis and specifically its application to polymer composites. Presently, he has been working on Aluminum alloys, AA 5024 (Al-Mg-Sc-Zr alloy) and understanding their friction stir welding characteristics, for an intended purpose of fabricating lighter and cost-effective aerospace structures.

Research interests

Aerospace  Al- alloys including Al-Mg-Sc alloy, friction stir welding, mechanical behavior of metallic materials, processing maps, microstructure-property correlation studies
