SUBRAHMANYA M B
PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST

Post-graduation (M.Tech) from National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal in Heat Power Engineering and graduation in Automobile Engineering from Malnad College of Engineering, Hasan.

Research interests: Turbulent flows, Transition flows, LES/DES.

My research area includes incompressible flow simulation majorly for external aerodynamics problems.

Experience/Skill set:

Structured and Unstructured grid generation using commercial tool POINTWISE and            structured grid generation using in-house grid generation tool.

Simulation of turbulent and transitional flows in the low mach incompressible flow regimes by turbulence modelling and transitional modelling

The in-house flow solution code 3D-PURLES is the tool majorly used and developed to solve incompressible flows. This code is applied for both external and internal aerodynamic problems.

Worked on MAVs in few national projects. Simulated turbulent flows and generated aerodynamic database for Golden Hawk and Black Kite NAL MAVs.   Transitional flow simulation of 150mm class Microbat NAL MAV and detailed flow analysis was carried out which was a challenging problem because of low Reynolds number and low aspect ratio wing geometry.

Worked on transitional modelling of flat-plate, airfoils and spheroid

Worked on high angle of attack aerodynamics and pitching and plunging airfoils.

Worked on weather radome structures for generating structural wind loads.

Worked on Slybird MAV fuselage.

Also working on duct flows and few external aerodynamic problems using the open source tool OpenFOAM using both structured and unstructured grids.

Currently working on the flow analysis of SARAS ECS duct system.

The work on DES (RANS-LES hybrid) techniques is being taken up and will be carried out in the near future.
