SENIOR PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST


Sadanand Kulkarni has obtained Master’s degree in Mechanical Design Engineering in the year 2003. He has worked as a production planning engineer in a reputed hydraulic company and faculty in Mechanical Engineering before joining CSIR-NAL in 2008.  He joined as a Scientist in, Advanced Bearings & Rotor Dynamics Laboratory of Prolusion Division and currently working in the capacity of Senior Principal Scientist.  His core area of work involves dynamics of rotating machineries, finite element analysis, mechanical design of engineering systems, vibration analysis & control. He is also working in the area of foil bearings, a lubricant free bearing technology for low load high speed application.  He has developed foil bearings of different class and demonstrated for the speeds above 50,000 rpm.  Smart squeeze film dampers using Magneto-rheological fluids are also developed and tested by him in the laboratory for active vibration  control.

 

He is also a member of National Test Facility for Rolling Element Bearings, the only test facility in India for the testing of indigenously developed and imported rolling element bearings & Lubricants. He is involved experimental evaluation various aerospace quality bearings and lubricants.

 

He has more than 25 publications in the international and national journals & conferences.  He is also a reviewer of couple of journals in the area of tribology and smart materials.  He has also delivered the invited lectures on various platforms.  He is also a part of a team which received a CSIR-NAL excellence award in the field of “Design & Development” in the year 2017.
