Ground based Weather Radomes [Mark II Radomes for Doppler Weather Radar (DWR)]

The spherical radome of 12.88m dia. was designed and developed by NAL as EM protective enclosures for BEL/ISRO DWRs. The second generation of radomes named as Mark II radomes have been installed at several locations along coastline and the North East of the country. These include Bhuj, Gujarat and Kochi, Kerala in the west, Gopalpur, Odisha, SHAR, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh in the east and Cherrapunji, Meghalaya in the North East. The manufacturing technology has been transferred to BEL, Navi Mumbai for production. The spherical radome is made out of PU Foam sandwich Glass epoxy composite using innovative and cost effective composite processing technique. It is targeted to serve the weatherman’s needs for the next millennium.
