Dr Balamurugan Gopalsamy has obtained Bachelors (1991) and Master Degrees (1995) in Mechanical Engineering from College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai. He completed PhD (2011) in Mechanical Engineering from NIT, Duragpur under German DAAD Sandwitch Program , RWTH, Aachen, Germany. He worked as Research Engineer at Fraunhofer Institute of Production Technology, Aachen, Germany. He joined CSIR in February, 1997 and He is presently Principal Scientist at NAL, Bangalore. He is Group Head, Mechanical Systems Design Group of Structural Technologies Division. His main area of Interest are Mechanical Design (Radomes, Wind tunnel Models etc), Aircraft Landing Gear Design, Air craft Mechanical Systems Design. He has jointly established facilities for lab scale test like Servo Hydraulic Actuation System test rig and Six Degrees of motion platform for liquid slosh simulation and 3D printing facility for functional prototyping, concept demonstration and constructing low speed wind tunnel models. He has more than 25 publications in international refereed journals and conferences in addition to numerous invited lectures from Engineering colleges. He has 3 patents to his credit and one is an international patent. He has published more than 30 internal technical write ups/ publications at NAL.
He is a reviewer for several international SCI journals viz i) International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Springer Edition, London, ii)International Journal of Mechanics and Materials in Design, Springer Publication. iii) Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B, Journal of Engineering Manufacture. He received Best Innovation award from CSIR-CMERI in 2003 and German DAAD Fellowship in 2004.
Dr Balamurugan is nominated as member for Board of Studies(Academic) in Crescent University, Chennai and Dr Mahlalingam College of Engineering , Pollachi, Coimbatore. He is an Expert Member:- Review of CARS Projects at DRDO-GTRE, Bangalore. He is a Member, Wing Door and Shutter Mechanism Sub-Committee, Nirbhay,DRDO-ADE and as Member for Critical Design Review Committee, Technology Demonstrator Engine Fuel Control Systems, GTRE,Bangalore. He is presently guiding 2 PhD scholars at NAL.
