Andi Udayakumar Dr
DEPUTY HEAD

Andi Udayakumar is a Chief Scientist in the Materials Science Division at CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL), Bangalore.  He graduated with a B.Sc. degree in physics from Arignar Anna Arts College, Cheyyar (Madras University) in 1989 and B.Ed. degree in Mathematics and Physical sciences from Government College of Education, Chennai, Madras University in 1990. Subsequently, he obtained his M.Sc degree in Materials Science from College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai and M.Tech degree in Ceramic Technology from Alagappa College of Technology, Anna University, Chennai in the year 1992 and 1997 respectively. He obtained his PhD. Degree from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai in 2014 for his thesis work titled Studies on SiCf/SiC composites prepared through Chemical Vapour Infiltration (CVI) process. At CSIR-NAL, he has briefly worked in the area of microwave processing of ceramics and Ceramics for Solid Oxide Fuel cell applications.  He then has been working in the area of continuous fibre reinforced ceramic matrix composites (CFCMC) through CVI and hybrid techniques for the past 17 years (2000-2017). He has completed more than 15 projects, which includes 10 sponsored projects. He has also been instrumental in establishing the CVI facility and carrying out R&D activities for the processing and characterization of CFCMC such as SiC/SiC, C/SiC, C/C etc.,at CSIR-NAL and he has more than 15 years of research experience in this field.
