Florita D'sa
PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST

During a Master’s programme in Physics, she was a student member of the Indian Physics Association, after which she joined Raman Research Institute as a research intern in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics. There, she was involved in the Mauritius Radio Telescope (MRT) Project, for the analysis of data pertaining to astronomical sources. She later joined the National Aerospace Laboratories and worked in the Materials Sciences Division as a research fellow. She was involved in the automation of thermo-physical experiments, conducted to study the properties of materials as a function of temperature and pressure. (The thermoelectric alloys analyzed were investigated as potential thermoelectric generators, while the shape-memory alloys were characterized as potential industrial sensors and actuators.) She has also been involved in the development of software for experiments performed at the Indian Academy of Sciences, as a part of the refresher programmes for lecturers. She has contributed to the study of CFRP composites (jointly with scientists from the Advanced Composites Division, NAL), since these materials were investigated as potential lightning arrestors. In addition, she was involved in the Drishti Project (for the measurement of visibility at airports). Her work included the development of software for the real-time computation of various parameters. Currently, she is a part of the Telemetry team engaged in the flight testing of the Saras PTIN aircraft. She is a life member of the Indian Science Congress Association and along with senior colleagues at NAL, has guided students pursuing courses in the field of instrumentation and automation.
