Devshree Kumar
PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST

Devshree Kumar has been working as a scientist at Micro Aerial Vehicle Unit (MAV Unit), National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore since October 2011. She works on various national aircraft projects such as NPMICAV, CSIR-FTT. Presently she is working on Vision based Control algorithms required by UAVs to perform surveillance, Object detection and Gimbal-tracking controller, Object recognition and classification, Digital video stabilization, Camera View Footprint, Geolocation Estimation of target etc. In addition to these expertise, she has developed Graphical User Interface for all these techniques in a very User-friendly manner which can be accessed from Ground Control Station (GCS), which is used to perform flight plan and control NAL UAV (SUCHAN). Also, she is working on 3D map, Orthomosaic and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) creation for the geotagged images captured by UAV.

She has worked as Principal Investigator for project “Formation Flying of three MICAVs". This project was successfully completed and she has demonstrated real-time flight of three mini Unmanned MAVs namely Pushpak in triangle formation maintaining the distance and angle amongst them. Pushpak is NAL’s in-house designed and fabricated airframe. For this project she designed the L-PSI formation controller in MATLAB/Simulink and established multi-MAV communication in Processor-in-Loop Simulation Setup (PILS). PILS for formation flying of multiple MAVs is setup in NAL for first time to verify cooperative missions of MAVs prior to flight test. She has also worked on instrumentation of control surface deflection using LABVIEW based GUI approach by actuating servo on Mini Unmanned MAVs. The MEMS gyroscope and accelerometer sensors were used to control the angular tilt in surface. This experiment she used for angular rotation of camera tripod stand. She has B.Tech in Electronics and Communication from AMITY University, Uttar Pradesh and M.Tech in Advanced Instrumentation Engineering from AcSIR, CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh with first class with distinction. She has various international and national conference publications and many technical reports to her credit. She is a recipient of NAL's Outstanding Scientist Award for Excellence in Design and Development in 2014-2015 for project "Formation Flying of three MICAVs".
