Dr Amit Kumar Onkar obtained his MTech & PhD degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 2008. He then joined CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories and is currently working as a Principal Scientist in the Structural Technological Division. He is also an Associate Professor in Faculty of Engineering Sciences, AcSIR at CSIR-NAL.
He has more than 13 years of post-PhD experience in the fields of Computational Mechanics, Structural Dynamics, Aeroelasticity, Fluid Structure Interaction, Uncertainty Quantification, Probabilistic and Non-probabilistic Methods, Stochastic Finite Elements. He has been associated with several R&D and sponsored projects of various government organizations & industries such as VSSC, ADA, HAL, IAF, Mahindra Aerospace etc. He has provided solutions to various aerospace programs such as RLV-TD, SARAS, LCA, MIRAGE 2000, GA10 and HTT40. He has about 60 publications in international & national refereed journals and conferences and over 150 project documents/technical reports.
He offers various courses to AcSIR PhD students at CSIR-NAL and has supervised 11 MTech and 1 PhD students for their thesis. He is also a recipient of ‘NAL Technology Shields – 2013 and 2019’ for outstanding group achievement, CSIR-Technology Award – 2019, and NAL-Excellence Award in the Area of Technology– 2021.
