Jayasankar's research is concerned with structural design of composites with application to aircraft and renewable energy (Wind energy). Particular focus areas in composite structures were leading edge of wing of medium sized aircrafts, Mousche (lift augmenting device below the cockpit), Trim-tabs of elevator, LRU enclosures and wind turbine blades.

Key areas of product development also includes building special purpose machines like 7-axis composite stitching machine with modified chain stitching mechanism.

Work was also done in composite sensor development for measurement of structural strains.
