Main area of Interest are Mechanical Design and Testing, Aircraft Landing Gear Design, Aircraft Mechanical Systems Design. He has established facilities for lab scale test like Servo Hydraulic Actuation System test rig and Six Degrees of motion platform for liquid slosh simulation and 3D printing facility for functional prototyping, concept demonstration and constructing low speed wind tunnel models. He has He has more than 40 publications in international refereed journals, book chapters and conferences in addition to numerous invited lectures from Engineering colleges. He has 3 patents to his credit and one is an international patent. He has published more than 70 internal technical write ups/ publications at NAL.
Academic_Qualification
Bachelors (1991) and Master Degrees (1995) in Mechanical Engineering from College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai. He completed PhD (2011) in Mechanical Engineering from NIT, Duragpur under German DAAD Sandwitch Program , RWTH, Aachen, Germany.
Professional Experience
Dr Balamurugan is presently Chief Scientist at NAL, Bangalore. He had been Group Head, Mechanical Systems Design Group of Structural Technologies Division. His main area of Interest are Mechanical Design and Testing, Aircraft Landing Gear Design, Aircraft Mechanical Systems Design. He has established facilities for lab scale test like Servo Hydraulic Actuation System test rig and Six Degrees of motion platform for liquid slosh simulation and 3D printing facility for functional prototyping, concept demonstration and constructing low speed wind tunnel models. He had executed more than 30 projects as Project Leader. He is chairman for Technical and Purchase committee of SARAS. He is instrumental for realization of Digital Brake Management System of SARAS and realized the same in short time. He was Task Leader and brought Hydraulics System and Brake and Wheels of SARAS MkII till CDR stage.

Awards and Honors
"Dr Balamurugan is a reviewer for several international SCI journals. He received Best Innovation award from CSIR-CMERI in 2003 and German DAAD Fellowship in 2004 in addition to awards received at CSIR-NAL.
Dr Balamurugan has been nominated as member for Board of Studies(Academic) in Crescent University, Chennai and Dr Mahlalingam College of Engineering , Pollachi, Coimbatore. He is Board of Studies(Academic) member at Dayananda Sagar University, Bangalore He was an Expert Member:- Review of CARS Projects at DRDO-GTRE, Bangalore. He was a Member, Wing Door and Shutter Mechanism Sub-Committee, Nirbhay,DRDO-ADE and as Member for Critical Design Review Committee, Technology Demonstrator Engine Fuel Control Systems, GTRE,Bangalore. He had been review member for AMCA Hydraulic systems CDR committee. He has guided 20 M.E/ MTech thesis. He has guided one PhD Scholar and is presently guiding 3 PhD scholars."
